Fumetto Card #46: DON PEPPE DIANA

March 19, 1994, thirty years have passed since the murder of Don Giuseppe Diana. In collaboration with the Don Peppe Diana Committee, Libera against the mafias Provincial Coordination of Caserta and Regional Coordination of Campania, Agesci Campania and the Diana Family, the Fumetto Card #46 solidarity card is dedicated to the Parish of Casal Di Principe.

Don Giuseppe Diana was born in Casal di Principe on 4 July 1958, the first of three children, followed by Emilio and Marisa. He was ordained a priest on 14 March 1982. Don Diana, as a young priest, had a special relationship with boys, in the meantime he had become a scout. He was the diocesan head of Agesci, the Catholic scouts.

He had an unbridled passion for football. Almost every Sunday he was present in the stands of the San Paolo stadium in Naples to follow his favorite team together with a large group of young people from his community. On 19 September 1989 he was appointed parish priest of the church of San Nicola in Casal di Principe.

Don Peppe Diana lived during the years of the Camorra domination of the Casalesi in the area. His most famous writing is the letter “For the love of my people”, a sort of manifesto of commitment against the criminal system. Don Giuseppe Diana was killed by the Camorra in Casal di Principe on 19 March 1994, shortly after 7.20 in the morning, on his name day, in his church, the parish of San Nicola di Bari. They fired four bullets at him. gun while preparing to celebrate mass. He was 36 years old.

The solidarity card will be brought to Casal Di Principe on 19 March 2024, on the occasion of the March for legality, in memory of the 30th anniversary of the killing of Don Peppe. The first edition, printed in 394 copies, 300 copies will be distributed during one of the activities that will take place in the afternoon at Casa Don Diana to the young people who will be present. The objective of the solidarity cards against the mafia is to raise awareness, make people think, keep historical memory alive, thanks to a message that is familiar and common to all, the sticker and also the comic.

The drawing is created by the cartoonist Roberto Lauciello, already author of the solidarity Fumetto Card of Bud Spencer and Don Piero Tubino for Figurine Forever, for which he also created the graphic novels, published by Becco Giallo and KC Editions.

N.B. the solidarity stickers and cards project also has the aim of promoting solidarity, raising awareness and keeping historical memory alive; Fundraising is only one part, however important and necessary. For this reason, it is possible that the solidarity stickers or cards can also be distributed at symbolic sums with only the reimbursement of expenses covered, sometimes not even that thanks to the “money box” formula of the Adotta Con La Figurina project, which has become operational since 2023. Special promotions are also planned, especially for titles of which there are many copies still in stock.

Fumetto Card #43: GIUSEPPE FANIN

100 years after the birth of Giuseppe Fanin, we are excited and proud to present the Fumetto Card #43 solidarity card, so as not to forget.

Giuseppe Fanin was born in San Giovanni in Persiceto on 8 January 1924. Coming from a family of farmers, he graduated in agriculture and chose to dedicate his knowledge and strength of mind to improving the lot of the workers of the land. The post-war years in the Bolognese countryside were very difficult and tumultuous. Pippo, as his friends called him, riding his beloved bicycle, had never wronged anyone or inflicted any violence.

On the night of November 4, 1948 he was cowardly butchered with blows from a bar, dying a few hours later in hospital without regaining consciousness. His trade union and human commitment was frowned upon by those who, blinded by a distorted vision of communist ideology, could not accept those who thought and acted differently. Joseph had always refused to carry weapons to defend himself, it was not acceptable, not even understandable, for him, a man of peace.

On 1 November 1998 in S. Giovanni in Persiceto, the cardinal of Bologna Giacomo Biffi opened the canonical process for the beatification of Giuseppe Fanin. In the name of Giuseppe Fanin there are realities in different cities that carry forward his ideals by working in the social field, his San Giovanni in Persiceto remains at the center. Starting from the famous Fanin Theatre, the work of the Municipality itself and the Giuseppe Fanin Social Cooperative which manages socio-educational services, also promoting the employment of disadvantaged people.

The drawing was created by Giuseppe Lenzone, who had already created for Figurine Forever the extra Fumetto Card of the students of Salvemini of Casalecchio di Reno. Giuseppe riding his bicycle, companion on many journeys between San Giovanni and Bologna and through the countryside between the workers. 100 years ago Il Giornalino was also born, the comic magazine distributed in Italian parishes. Giuseppe with the magazine in the bicycle basket, so we wanted to pay a small homage to a fundamental subject in children’s fiction.

We thank the Fanin Family for their collaboration. With the patronage of the Municipality of San Giovanni in Persiceto.

Fumetto Forever Card #40: DON PINO PUGLISI

The life of Blessed Don Pino Puglisi, a priest killed on 15 September 1993 by the mafia in Palermo, in the Brancaccio district where he worked, and whose death marks the thirtieth anniversary, tells a great story, that of a man capable of listening and with dialogue not only to oppose the criminal power of Cosa Nostra but to worry, worry and frighten the mafia leaders.

Don Pino, renamed by the people of Palermo 3P – Father Pino Puglisi – listened with his ears and his heart to the needs of the poor people, tried to combat school dropout by establishing after-school and evening courses, took away laborers from the mafia by offering new horizons to the children of the neighborhood, new alternative ways to delinquency and to the culture written by Cosa Nostra, interwoven with silence, intimidation, violence and illegality.

The Gospel and the prayer of the Our Father were the coordinates on which the whole life and social work of Don Pino moved, a work that led on 16 July 1991 to the birth, by will of the Blessed, of the Reception Center Our Father, the living and beating heart of Don Pino’s modus vivendi in Brancaccio, a place of social recovery thanks to which wonderful realities were born: day centers for the elderly, anti-violence centers for women, holiday homes for school camps for teenagers, youth social centers and social reintegration projects dedicated to prisoners (http://centropadrenostro.it/).

During the papacy of Benedict XVI, on 25 May 2013 Don Pino was proclaimed Blessed. He is the first mafia martyr killed in odium fidei.

His work, carried out by those who are now part of the Padre Nostro Center, continues thirty years later with wonderful projects to support and learn about. Take a look at the Center’s website and you will be amazed.

The solidarity Fumetto Card #40, designed by Riccardo Pagani and freely taken from the graphic novel “Don Puglisi” (Renoir Comics, 2021), designed by the same and written by Marco Sonseri, wants to remember one of the most significant moments of the proposals made by the Blessed Puglisi: our life is a road. Where do we want to go? What is our goal? An existential question that we are all required to answer.

Viva Don Pino Puglisi. Viva 3P.

The solidarity card is created in collaboration with the Padre Nostro Reception Center of Brancaccio, the first edition printed in 1993 numbered copies is distributed in Palermo on the days of the initiatives surrounding the anniversary. A second edition has already been printed which continues the numbering of the first.

Fumetto Forever Card #33: GIUSEPPE SALVIA!

Giuseppe Salvia is Deputy Director and Head of the maximum security department of the Poggioreale prison, Naples, when he is assassinated by the Nuova Camorra Organizzata on the orders of Raffaele Cutolo, for having been a point of resistance in the fight of the State against the Camorra.

The solidarity Comic Card #33 is dedicated to the memory of Salvia and to all the innocent victims of the mafia. It was April 14, 1981, when Giuseppe, 38 years old married with two daughters (Antonino and Claudio), returning from work, was followed and shot to death in a cowardly ambush on the Naples ring road, by a commando from the area by Ponticelli.

The decision to draw him in front of a foosball table is a happy intuition of the Salvia family, following the information gathered on the setting that solidarity stickers often have. The aim is also to want, in some way, to “humanize” those who fought against mafia power and were unfortunately often killed for it. Giuseppe Salvia was not an ordinary man, of great values and sound principles, but he was also a person, a father, like many others, with his passions, such as that for table football.

The splendid drawing of the card was created by Italo Mattone, professor at the International School of Comics in Naples and well-known cartoonist for publishers such as Eura, Renoir and Sergio Bonelli Editore, in particular for the Julia, Martin Mystère, Odessa and Saguaro series.

The Comic Cards linked to the support of associations, realities and non-profit organizations against the mafias, have a circulation with an extremely symbolic number, 109, like the 1996 law for the public and social reuse of assets confiscated from the mafias.

Fumetto Forever Card #27: PAOLO BORSELLINO!

LIBERA forever! We are facing an important solidarity card, a first for many reasons. The first with the new graphics of our Comics Cards. The choice is due to the chance to distance ourselves, when necessary, from the sporting reference. This solidarity card is also the first of a, we hope, long series dedicated to the fight against the mafia. The Comic Card # 27 solidarity card is in memory of Paolo Borsellino.

Judge Borsellino is drawn in a moment of relaxation, with his bicycle, which we wanted to design sports so as to maintain a reference, even if light, to our previous Comic Cards. These men and women who for a lifetime have fought the Mafia logic, they were or are people like us, with loves, passions, thoughts that are often part of our life.

The other important novelty is the close synergy, even more than before, of the figurine with the graphic novel to which it is freely linked. It is an even stronger tribute to the world of comics, it is a way for us to support the Ninth Art and its authors and artists in our own small way.

The drawing is made by Gianluca Doretto, author of “Paolo Borsellino, a story to tell” (Renoir Comics, 2021). The comic board on the postcard, placed under the sticker, is taken from the graphic novel, we have chosen a page full of meaning. The Sicilian writer of the graphic novel Marco Sonseri, a friend of Figurine Forever and now also with the role of our fundamental collaborator, with him was born the idea of this sub-series of solidarity stickers against the mafia.

The Comic Cards linked to fight against mafia have an extremely symbolic number, 109, like the law of 1996 for the public and social reuse of assets confiscated from the mafia.

In the case of this solidarity card, Libera is an important reality in our country, it collects associations, names and numbers against the mafias. His work is often hidden but important, we certainly do not think with our stickers that we can make a difference, but if they can contribute to the support, including media, of their work, the result will be achieved.

Paolo Borsellino died in the mafia massacre in via D’Amelio in Palermo on 19 July 1992, with him the men and women of the escort, whom we wanted to remember on the back of the postcard. Many will have noticed that even in the figurine there is the tree that has become a perpetual symbol of remembrance, for all those who, who have never stopped, have the opportunity to go this way in order not to forget.

Fumetto Forever Card #24: MICHELE “PORTA PAZIENZA”!

Michele forever! In January 2022, a friend of Figurine Forever left us, but above all a boy with a heart of gold, engaged in the front line with the splendid reality of Porta Pazienza, a pizzeria that is much more than a pizzeria, as it is. they define themselves as “we are a social project” (https://portapazienza.bo.it/). In a mix of tears and satisfaction, we are thrilled to announce the solidarity Comic Card # 24, in memory of Michele Ammendola.

Michele, from Bologna by adoption, was a true Neapolitan, a great fan of the Azzurri team. This is why we thought that one way to remember him was to imagine him as the footballer of his beloved Napoli and even with Porta Pazienza as the main sponsor of the team! The edition is also a tribute to his sporting passion, 126 copies, thinking about the year of the club’s birth, 1926.

All this was made possible by the splendid graphic work of the young cartoonist Gloria Goderecci, from Abruzzo but also from Bologna by adoption, author of the recent graphic novel “Death is only the beginning” (Tunuè editions). Dear Michele, even your farewell is only the beginning for us, your commitment and all that of the children of Porta Pazienza, together with other related associations, has never stopped, it has gone further and will continue to do so.

FOR PORTA PAZIENZA!
With this solidarity card + postcard, it will be possible to support the Adotta Con La Figurina project and Porta Pazienza (https://www.portapazienza.bo.it/), a splendid reality in Bologna, defining it as a pizzeria would be very limiting, the goal is to create a critical and conscious consumption model, bringing unique recipes with products from assets confiscated from the mafias and from social farming cooperatives.
