A Lazarus Ledd card is certainly nothing new, anticipating times and fashions in the heart of the 90s it was customary to find promotional products of this kind at trade fairs in the sector. A precise and deliberate modus operandi to bring the reader closer to the character, often leaving something unique and particular to take home.
In 1993, number 1 of the Lazarus Ledd series was released on behalf of Star Comics and remained in the shops for over 150 months, the solidarity Fumetto Card #42 is dedicated to Lazarus and his creator, Ade Capone.
Ade Capone, from Piacenza but from Salsa by adoption, was a screenwriter, reporter, talent scout, editor, television author, writer and popularizer. From the fanzines and container magazines of the 80s, with more than 200 stories under his belt, and passionate about comics, he has written for the major Italian publishers including Sergio Bonelli Editore and Star Comics. In the 1990s, with Lazarus Ledd and his independent house Liberty, he discovered and launched talents on the comics market who today work for Italy, France and the United States. With Erinni he won the award for “best-selling independent series”, results still unbeaten after 30 years. The special relationship with the public, the contents of his stories, multimedia and solidarity made him a precursor of his times. He loved cats and as a young man was a good water polo player, a passion that remained throughout his life.
1993, Ronald Gordon, former soldier of the C.O.B.R.A. special force. he changes his identity to Lazarus Ledd, leaving behind a stormy past to live as a taxi driver by night and freelance journalist by day, in New York. As a hero who does not turn his back on injustices, he will find himself experiencing missions at the limits of the ordinary. In more than 15 years, his stories have crossed countless genres, mixing mysterious and fictional facts with events that surround our lives and the world we live in.
The initiative was made possible thanks to the availability of Kromo (curator of the immense Capone archive) and Ade’s family, who also had a past as water polo players. Alessandro Bocci, one of the major points of reference among the designers of the Lazarus Ledd series, was involved in designing the card.
