Celebrative Sticker #63: TITO CUCCHIARONI!

A name, a myth, a flag, of Sampdoria but also of his hometown in Argentina. The Celebrative Sticker #63 solidarity sticker is dedicated to Ernesto “Tito” Cucchiaroni.

Born in Posadas on 16 November 1927. He began his career as a left winger in his hometown team and then moved to Tigre. The next leap, sought by the most important clubs in Argentine football, is the arrival at Boca Juniors. Thanks to the proceeds of that transfer it is said that Club Atlético Tigre was able to complete the work on the new stadium. After just a year and his debut with the national team, Tito was bought by Milan where he would play 2 seasons, also winning the scudetto. In the 1968/59 season he arrived at Sampdoria where he remained for five years with 148 total appearances, 42 goals and entered the myth of “Blucerchiati” history, to the point that the name of the first Italian ultras group was dedicated to him.

The bond between the Genova Blucerchiati and the Argentine footballer remained very strong, even if Tito unfortunately left us very early, due to a heart attack at just 43 years old, while attending a match at the stadium, in his Posadas.

The solidarity sticker was made possible thanks to the availability of the Cucchiaroni family, in particular their niece Marcela who wrote about our proposal: “As a member of the family, I can tell you that we are proud of this initiative. Even more so knowing that my uncle Tito, more than a great footballer, was characterized by his qualities as a person, especially in terms of empathy for people in need. From now on we give you our support, in his name, for this great idea. Everything will be fine, I assure you. Congratulations!”

The Cucchiaroni family still lives in Posadas and the Italian-Argentine association Jardin de Los Ninos operates in this city, included in the Adotta Con La Figurina project since 2023. Naturally, they were the direct and personal contact who was able to create such a unique bond with Tito’s relatives. The OdV has been operating for over 20 years in Posadas with extremely interesting projects to support the entire community, creating a Community Social Centre, activities for children but also for adults, contributing to improving the conditions of the population and also intervening on microcredit.

The Samp & Doria Museum was also involved, as a point of reference for the valorization of the sporting and social history of the Genoese club and therefore an ideal partner to remember Tito Cucchiaroni. The circulation of the first edition of the solidarity sticker is not random, the footballer made 148 appearances wearing the Blucerchiati shirt.
