The life of Blessed Don Pino Puglisi, a priest killed on 15 September 1993 by the mafia in Palermo, in the Brancaccio district where he worked, and whose death marks the thirtieth anniversary, tells a great story, that of a man capable of listening and with dialogue not only to oppose the criminal power of Cosa Nostra but to worry, worry and frighten the mafia leaders.
Don Pino, renamed by the people of Palermo 3P – Father Pino Puglisi – listened with his ears and his heart to the needs of the poor people, tried to combat school dropout by establishing after-school and evening courses, took away laborers from the mafia by offering new horizons to the children of the neighborhood, new alternative ways to delinquency and to the culture written by Cosa Nostra, interwoven with silence, intimidation, violence and illegality.
The Gospel and the prayer of the Our Father were the coordinates on which the whole life and social work of Don Pino moved, a work that led on 16 July 1991 to the birth, by will of the Blessed, of the Reception Center Our Father, the living and beating heart of Don Pino’s modus vivendi in Brancaccio, a place of social recovery thanks to which wonderful realities were born: day centers for the elderly, anti-violence centers for women, holiday homes for school camps for teenagers, youth social centers and social reintegration projects dedicated to prisoners (http://centropadrenostro.it/).
During the papacy of Benedict XVI, on 25 May 2013 Don Pino was proclaimed Blessed. He is the first mafia martyr killed in odium fidei.
His work, carried out by those who are now part of the Padre Nostro Center, continues thirty years later with wonderful projects to support and learn about. Take a look at the Center’s website and you will be amazed.
The solidarity Fumetto Card #40, designed by Riccardo Pagani and freely taken from the graphic novel “Don Puglisi” (Renoir Comics, 2021), designed by the same and written by Marco Sonseri, wants to remember one of the most significant moments of the proposals made by the Blessed Puglisi: our life is a road. Where do we want to go? What is our goal? An existential question that we are all required to answer.

The solidarity card is created in collaboration with the Padre Nostro Reception Center of Brancaccio, the first edition printed in 1993 numbered copies is distributed in Palermo on the days of the initiatives surrounding the anniversary. A second edition has already been printed which continues the numbering of the first.
