Thanks to the collaboration with the cultural association Il Bar Del Baseball – Baseball Museum of Nettuno (Rome), comes the memory of the unforgettable match played by Italy against the USA on 5 September 1973 in Parma. It’s time for legends!
The solidarity Celebrative Sticker #48 is dedicated to Dario Bazzarini, born in Ronchi dei Legionari, on 5-16-1952. He made his debut in 1969 with his hometown club in Nettuno. In 1974 and 1975 he played in Milan and then moved to Rimini, a team with which he won 3 Italian Championships and 2 Champions Cups. In 1980 he was awarded the Baseball Oscar for Best Pitcher. He will play for Rimini until 1981. With the blue shirt he collected 18 appearances, participating in three World Cups and two Intercontinental Cups. He is considered among the best Italian pitchers ever. In Parma, in that unforgettable match, he was there.

Parma, 5 September 1973, the last day of the 1st Intercontinental Cup, the Italian national team faces the USA, with great public success. It would seem “David against Goliath”, for Italian baseball born 25 years earlier, to face the American masters. Final score 6-5 with a deciding home run by Vic Luciani in the extra inning. The blue baseball legends won.
